"diligence and fidelity, to the satisfaction of the Head Officer or Officers of his Department," to be signed by any two of such Head Officers, if there shall be more than one, or by such Head Officer, if there shall be but one, together with "such a statement as will exhibit the merit, and value, and labour of the services of the Person recommended, embracing as long a period of his public service as can be authentically stated," and observations as to Special Services, Suspension, Reprimand, &c., with full particulars of any injuries received on duty, or other claims or matters for consideration.
M2. Ma Load has discharged his duties with diligence and fidelity during the time (about five years) I have had charge of the Public Works Department of this Colony. I believe that my predecessors also had a high opinion of his services.

I certify that the annual pension according to the Rules of the Colonial Service, amounts to eighty dollars.

Saving regained his health and strength, returned to the Colony, and was re-employed on the 8th December 1889, at his former rate of pay, viz: $100 per month, without free quarters up to the present time.
He was absent on half pay for 2 months, from 10th December 1889 to 91 May 1890, (counting as 2/2 months service). His pensionable service will count as 15 years from 29th October 1865 to 28th October 1880, and 9 years from 8th December 1882 to 28th February 1891, deducting 2/1⁄2 months leave on half pay
